MY MOSCOW INITIATION

At midnight on the 18/19 January, I was one of a thousand people who plunged into sub-zero water for the Russian traditional and celebration of the Orthodox holiday of, the Epiphany.

NY 2012 IN MOSCOW

As a new year dawns on us, well most of us we’ll start reflecting over the past year and then we’ll start making new plans and goals for the new year. It happens every year, lists and lists. This year however unlike the beginning of the year before, I start the year with love, happy and looking forward to the great unknowns of what this year will hold. I have made no lists, instead I have gone back to the lists I’ve done in the past and have looked at what I still need to do. Can’t pile up on the lists until you’ve cleared the others, right? I think they call it: DE-CLUTTERING!

COUCH SURFING…

I’ve spent the last two weeks sleeping on my couch because i have no bedding and haven’t had time to do any shopping since arriving in Moscow. With being at work everyday and living on Subway sandwiches, I’m tired and need to GET a duvet and pillows for a bed that I have but can’t sleep on because i don’t know how to get to IKEA or any other shopping mall for that matter. I’m lacking proper sleep. Missing London. 😦 My gosh why is everything so bloody difficult here. arrrrrrggggggggg!!!

LANDING IN MOSCOW…

I spend the whole 3:30 hours on the plane sleeping. I was so emotionally drained and tired and all i wanted was to sleep. Thankfully I had three seats all to myself and from the plane ride I already knew i was on my way to a country where I will sure as hell stand out. I was scared, tired and anxious.

AN AFRICAN IN MOSCOW

The days before my departure, I would secretly cry, thinking about the decision I have just made. In many ways the decision to go to Moscow was already written in my “stars”, it was to be done. I spend the last day getting drunk with my housemates and the rest of the night till my morning flight, crying with my beloved. The journey to London Heathrow was as somber, almost like there was a death. Disbelieve enveloped us.
